The latest survey entrusted by the Bureau of Fair Trade for Imports and Exports of the Ministry of Commerce reveals that the depth and extensity of China's market-oriented economy has been continuously enhancing. In 2005, China's degree of market-oriented economy was 73.8% while in 2001 the figure was only 69%. To date, over 40 countries have acknowledged China's market economy status.

"2005 China Market-oriented Economy Development Report" undertaken by the Institute of Economic and Resources Management of Beijing Normal University has been finished recently. This key project supported by national social and scientific fund took market-oriented economy standard of the American and European countries' anti-dumping and international economic freedom index for reference in terms of evaluating index setting of degree of market-oriented economy. Thus, the report is highly persuasive in international comparability.

Li Xiaoxi, head of the Institute of Economic and Resources Management of Beijing Normal University, said that China's degree of market-oriented economy has exceeded the critical level of market-oriented economy at 60%, indicating that China is undoubtedly a developing country of market-oriented economy. Its economic freedom index has surpassed that of many countries in transition and developing countries acknowledged as countries of market-oriented economy by American and European countries. Therefore it is considered unfair not to grant China the status of market economy.

Li added that American and European countries always regard China as "a country with non-market-oriented economy" and frequently launched anti-dumping investigations against China. Abuse of the term "status of market-oriented economy" leads other countries to launch anti-dumping against China by utilizing such term frequently, which largely affected China's exports. In the long run, solution to China's issue of "non-market-oriented economy" is a choice giving rise to the win-win situation among China and other countries.
