Survey on China’s silk goods imports and exports through Jan. to July, 2005

According to the figures released by China customs, China’s silk goods exports rose 14.82 per cent in the first seven months of 2005 to reach 4.783 billion US dollars and imports increased 0.22 per cent to reach 1.364 US dollars resulting in a trade surplus of 3.419 billion US dollars. Among them, real silk goods exports and imports totaled respectively 2.103 billion US dollars and 0.09897 billion US dollars, up 19.37 per cent and 8.58 per cent.
1. Natural silk goods exports kept stable growth and its average price continued to go up.
The volume and value of natural silk goods through Jan. to July of this year reached 16600 tons and 0.309 billion US dollars, up 9.49 per cent and 19.7 per cent respectively. Its average price rose 9.32 per cent to reach 18.53 US dollars per kg.
Its main exporting destination markets are India, Italy, Japan, Korea and Hongkong.
2. Synthetic silk fabric accounted for majority of silk fabric exports while its growth rate dropped. The growth rate of real silk goods exports increased rapidly.
Silk fabric exports in the first seven months of this year totaled 3.075 billion US dollars, up 13.85 per cent.
Among them, synthetic silk fabric exports reach 2.661 billion dollars to account for 86.55 per cent of total silk fabric exports, up 11.9 per cent and dropping 2.39 per cent compared to last month. Its price averaged at 0.77 US dollars per meter, up 0.6 per cent. Its main destination markets are AEB, Hongkong, Iran, India and USA.
Real silk exports reached 0.349 billion US dollars, up 32.7 per cent. Among them, gray fabric exports rose 35.29 per cent to reach 0.279 billion US dollars. Its price averaged at 2.11 US dollars per meter, up 5.79 per cent. The main destination markets are India, Italy, Korea, Hongkong and Japan.
3. Silk madeups exports rose 15.97 per cent to reach 1.4 billion US dollars and
silk garment exports rose 11.40 per cent to reach 1.125 billion US dollars and accounted for 80.36 per cent of silk madeups exports. The price averaged at 9.07 US dollars per garment, up only 5.58 per cent. The main destination markets are USA, Japan, Hongkong, Germany and Italy.
4. Exporting market structure has changed moderately. Hongkong moved up to become the third exporting market instead of UAE.
5. Leading export provinces enjoyed rapid growth.
Total exports of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guangdong and Shandong accounted for 90.18 per cent of the nation’s total. The leading export provinces and municipalities still located in China’s coastal region.
