China:Silk product exports up 0.92 pct in Jan., 2006

Latest figures showed that China’s silk product exports rose by 0.92 pct in the first month of 2006 to reach 0.762 billion US dollars and imports dropped by 11.9 pct to reach 0.136 billion US dollars resulting in a trade surplus of 0.626 billion US dollars. Among them, natural silk product exports and imports totaled 0.36 billion US dollars and 11.9026 million US dollars, up 11.98 pct and down 6.96 pct respectively.
1.Natural silk exports kept stable growth and its average price rose sharply. The volume and value of natural silk export in January reached 2744.84 tons and 69.1987million US dollars, up 21.48 pct and 76.08 pct respectively. Its average price rose by 44.95 pct to reach 25.21 US dollars per kg.
The main exporting destination markets are India, Japan, Italy, South Korea and Vietnam.
2. Silk fabric exports in January dropped by 3.76 pct to total 0.47 billion US dollars. Among them, synthetic silk fabric exports dropped by 7.14 pct to total 0.4 billion US dollars and accounted for 84.98 pct of total silk fabric exports;Natural silk fabric exports reached 68.2128 million US dollars, up by 23.58 pct.
3. Silk madeup exports dropped by 2.03 per cent to total 0.223 billion US dollars. Among them, silk garment exports accounted for 82.34 pct of total silk madeup exports. Neckties and scarves came next.
4. The main silk product exporting destination markets are the USA, AEB, India, Hongkong, Italy, Japan, Iran and Pakistan. Among them, exports to the USA, UAE and Iran dropped exceeding 10 pct, however, exports to other main markets increased, and the growth rate to Pakistan and Japan even reached 29.72 pct and 28.35 pct.
5.Zhejiang had the largest amount of silk product exports in January. Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangdong and Sichuan came next. The leading exporting provinces and municipalities enjoyed moderate growth except Zhejiang. Guandong even enjoyed a growth rate of 80.32 pct.
