From Feb. 9, some counties in south Guangxi began to distribute silkworm eggs, however, in most regions of Guangxi, it is expected to widely distribute silkworm eggs during the first ten days of this month.
Guangxi, China’s largest cocoon production region, has shown a tight silkworm egg supply situation this spring as a result of the following factors:
1.The egg supply situation seems some tight in the country wide because of the low egg output of last autumn due to the unfavorable weather.
2.Hiked cocoon and silk prices greatly simulated farmers’ enthusiasm in planting mulberry trees and breeding silkworms. As a result, demand for silkworm eggs will grow fast.
3.This year warm weather comes early in Guangxi, meantime, the spring drought has been lightened by artificial rain. So mulberry trees started to shoot up about ten days ahead of last year and about seven days ahead of the previous years.
4.The area under mulberry has increased about 300,000 mus in the spring of 2005. The mulberry trees can be put into use this year. Thus will lead to a increasing demand for silkworm eggs.
5.During previous years, some proportion of silkworm eggs were supplied by other provinces. As the tight supply situation this year, other provinces won’t supply additional eggs to Guangxi.
