In Jiangsu province, farmers used to fertilize mulberry trees in late March. But with a recent global trend toward warm, Jiangsu province has an earlier and warmer climate these years, plus, high-quality mulberry trees, represented by Yu 71-1, are widely popularized in the main cocoon producing areas including Nantong and Yancheng. Accordingly, mulberry trees begin to shoot up seven days earlier than the previous years.
Industry expert says that fertilizing too late can damage new shoot growth, inhibit plant development and have an impact on leaves quality. As a result, now the ideal time to start fertilizing is Mid March.
