Summer is the high season of for power use in China. In the past, textile mills in the Zhejiang province used to suffer from a shortage of power. Limited power supply during high season has been a common phenomenon in Zhejiang since 2002. Even now, one third of the provincial power supply is derived from other provinces.
A recent survey of 187 textile and apparel makers shows that those who are seriously affected by a short power supply accounts for 40.1%; 54.2% claim the influence is moderate; and only 7.5% say that the impact is not serious.
According to the Zhejiang Power Corporation, the power supply in 2006 will be much better than last year’s. In addition, with the upgrading of power stations in three neighbor provinces, Jiangsu, Anhui and Fujian, the power supply in Zhejiang is expected to be balanced in 2007.
