The death toll from four days of floods in southern and central China has risen to at least 188, with more than 100 still reported missing and about 11 million people affected, state media said Tuesday.

Eleven more deaths were reported in the southern province of Guangdong, where tropical storm Bilis caused estimated economic losses of 6 billion yuan (750 million dollars), state media said.

In the worst-hit province of Hunan, to the north of Guangdong, at least 92 people have died since Friday as typhoon Bilis brought torrential rains that caused floods and landslides in many areas, state television said.

At least 31,000 homes were destroyed in Hunan and more than 100 people reported missing.

In a statment on the floods on Monday, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said 2.2 million people had been evacuated in southern China since Friday.

Another 43 people died and 24 were missing in the south-eastern province of Fujian, where Bilis made landfall Friday.

Nine others were reported dead in the Guangxi region.

Officials believed the floods were the worst in a century along stretches of Hunan's Xiangjiang river and the Beijiang river in northern Guangdong.

China Central television showed aerial footage of flooded towns and villages, huge landslides and broken bridges in Guangdong, taken from a police helicopter surveying the damage.

Torrential rain began falling Friday evening as the tropical storm, downgraded from a typhoon, brought storms to many parts of southern and eastern China before moving inland.

Bilis slammed the Philippines and Taiwan before reaching China. It killed at least 14 people and left seven missing in the Philippines, and killed at least four people in Taiwan.
