The Central Silk Board announced it would be hosting the
next (20th) Congress of the International Sericultural Commission
(ISCC-2005) at Bangalore, from 15th to 18th December 2005.
The International Sericultural Commission (ISC), headquartered at Lyon, France is presently, the only intergovernmental organization of silk producing countries. The chief objective of ISC is to encourage and promote the development of Sericulture and allied activities of the Sericulture industry in the member countries through technology transfer, collaborative studies, scientific interaction, appraisal of Sericulture Projects, etc. After the closure of International Silk Association (ISA), the role of ISC in the international silk arena has become much more crucial. In the post-ISA period, ISC is likely to also assume responsibilities such as providing liaison between member countries to facilitate exchange of product information, fixing
international quality standards for silk and related products, and
collection & compilation of country-wise data about silk and its
dissemination through newsletters, etc.
