TASHKENT: Three new joint ventures producing silk were set up in Uzbekistan in the run-up to Independence Day marked on 1 September, the Mohiyat newspaper reported on 31 August.
"The Silver Silk joint venture producing silk fabrics - the first of its kind - has been put into operation in Tashkent. Two more similar enterprises will be opened in the run-up to the Independence Day holiday," the report said.
"One of them has been built in Tashkent using Chinese capital and it will produce 120 ton of silk threads per annum. The other one is the Navoiy Silk joint venture which has been established in Navoiy Region," the report added.
"This brings to nine the total number of silk enterprises set up with foreign investment. Mainly Japanese, South Korean and Chinese companies took part in the establishment of these enterprises," the chairman of the Uzbek Ipagi (Uzbek Silk) association, Rahmatilla Roziqulov, was quoted as saying.
