I am the manufacturer of silk fabric I regular track of all the silk activities here in Bangalore.
As per my information the sales of silk fabrics or silk products in India has come to a very lower level. This is due to the hick in the price in raw silk. But our customers are not ready to buy any fabric at the new price and it is hardly about 30-40% of the Indian market is doing the trade.
Here the raw silk dealers are having lot of stock of raw silk because of no sales in raw silk even here. It has become like this a person consuming 5 Bales (300Kgs) a week is now consuming only 60-120kgs in a week.
If we the manufactures get good price for our fabrics then we don't mind paying more for the raw silk. But all the re-sellers / Traders , retails are not willing to buy fabrics which has increased the price more then 25-30%.
Here in Bangalore today's(24-01-2006) raw silk rates are Rs.1750-1780/- ($38.88 - $39.55) per kg before the rates were Rs.1450-Rs.1600/- in this sudden increase the customers are not will to buy, but are waiting for the prices to go down.
And here the cocoons are giving good production and most of them are consuming Indian raw silk which costs us from Rs.1500-Rs.1550/- ($33.33 - $ 34.44) that is more cheaper then the imported raw silk. and even these prices are expected to go down more further due to good craft.
This is the situation in Bangalore Market of India.
