Corruption in Textile Ministry: A Major Reason for Recession

The recession in the Indian textile industry has compelled experts to research on the reasons that why the textile industry which was progressing well towards a golden future is suddenly eclipsed by such recession. On the one hand the textile industry is worried over the extended recession and on the other hand the textiles ministry on the basis of fabricated and confusing data is trying to show different dreams to the industry which seem to be far from reality. Many traders and mill owners have started blaming the corruption prevalent in the textile ministry for the recession in the trade. Some people even think of contemplating efforts to remove this ministry.

In China there is no designated ministry for textiles, even then the textile business there is touching newer heights all over the world and has become a strong back-bone for its country’s economy. Even in India the federations and associations related to the industry are so strong that they can take important decisions keeping in view the benefits of the country and trade in general which can benefit the smooth working for the overall textile industry. After the quota regime it was believed that India will be highly benefited from this, but China has made a long leap and left all behind, even when the quota regime in China will end in 2008. It can very well be understood what will be India’s situation then.

Considering the reasons for the present recession the experts conclude that due to major changes in the basic pattern of business in any industry there is bound to be some effect of recession. But they also say that this process of change in continuing since last 5-6 years, but such recession was never seen in previous years. So it does not seem to be a process of comprehensive change and rather seem to be strange making the textile trade and industry a lot more worried. It is said that power loom, modern looms, yarns, trading, processing, exports even textile machinery production had been eclipsed by the recent recession. In all areas there is one talk going on that the corruption in textile ministry in the matter of large scale garment imports is having a negative effect on the industry.
