1.Silk products imported from China by US in June

According to the statistics of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the import value of silk products from China in June was 102 million US dollars, up 21.7% year on year, and 2 % month on month, accounting for 30.08% of the global imports. The details were as follows:

Silk filament: imported from China amounted to 53.5 thousand US dollars, up 142.05% and down 61.54% from the previous year and month respectively, accounting for 6.73% of the market share and ranking sixth in the sources of imports, a large fluctuation continued on monthly share. The import quantity was 0.799 tons, growing 27.85% and dropping 84.36% from the previous year and month respectively, with a market share of 6.81%.

Silk fabrics: imported from China amounted to 6.9092 million US dollars, down 0.02% and up 34.65% from the previous year and month respectively, with a market share of 27.04%, ranking second in the source of imports.

Silk madeups: imported from China amounted to 95 million US dollars, up 23.61% and 1.15% from the previous year and month respectively, accounting for 30.38% of its market share.

2.Silk products imported from China by US in Jan.- Jun.

From January to June, the U.S. imported 644 million US dollars of silk products from China, up 14.65% year on year, accounting for 30.31% of its global imports. Among them:

Silk filament: imported from China amounted to 1.3527 million US dollars,up 264.21% year on year,with whose market share totaled 25.96%, falling to be the second in the import sources of silk filament. The import quantity was 46.93 tons, an increase of 562.14% from the previous year and a marked share of 45.05%.

Silk fabrics: imported from China amounted to 28.7707 million US dollars, up 2.02% from a year ago, with a marked share of 27.17%, and ranking the first in the import sources of silk fabrics.

Silk madeups: imported from China amounted to 614 million US dollars, up 15.14% from a year ago, with a marked share of 30.48%, ranking the first in import sources of silk madeups.

3.U.S. import situation of silk products with 10% imposed tariff from China

Since June 2018, the U.S. has imposed a 10% import tariff on 25 Chinese silk products classified in 8-digit HS codes, including 1 cocoon, 7 silk filaments (actually containing 8 10-digit HS codes), and 17 silk fabrics (actually containing 37 10-digit HS codes).

3.1U.S. import situation of silk products with imposed tariff from China in June


U.S. imported 499.6 thousand U.S. dollars of silk products with 10% imposed tariff from China in June, down 76.54% and 25.34% from the previous year and month respectively, accounting for 9.56% of the marked share.

The details were as follows:

Cocoon: zero imports from China.

Silk filament: imported from China amounted to 53.5 thousand US dollars, up 142.05% and down 61.54% from the previous year and month respectively, accounting for 6.73% of the market share and ranking the sixth in the sources of  imports, a large fluctuation continued on monthly share. Silk fabrics: imported from China amounted to 446.1 thousand US dollars, down 78.83% and 15.85% from the previous year and month respectively, accounting for 10.07% of marked share. The quantity was 60.7 thousand square meters, a drop of 84.18% from a year ago.

3.2 U.S. import situation of silk products with imposed tariff from China in Jan.-Jun.

From January to June, U.S. imported 3.9988 million U.S. dollars of silk products with 10% imposed tariff from China, a year-on-year decrease of 44.59%, and a market share of 13.78%. Among them:

Cocoon: imported from China amounted to 5500 US dollars, with a market share of 100%.

Silk filament: imported from China amounted to 1.3527 million US dollars, an increase of 264.21% year on year, and a market share of 25.96%, ranking the second in the import sources of silk filament. The quantity was 46.93 tons, an increase of 562.14% YOY, and a market share of 45.05%.

Silk fabrics: imported from China amounted to 2.6406 million US dollars, a decline of 61.43% year on year, and a market share of 11.09%, ranking the fourth in the import sources of silk fabrics. The quantity was 372.9 thousand square meters, falling 84.37% from a year before.
