The import and export situation of silk products in Jan.-Feb.

From January to February, the total import and export value of silk products was 328 million US dollars, an increase of 23.16% year-on-year, accounting for 0.64% of China's total import and export of textiles and apparel.

Export situation

The export value of pure silk products was 264 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 26.08%, accounting for 0.56% of China's textile and apparel exports which grew 0.97% YOY(the same below) during the same period.

1 The structure of export products

In the first month of 2022, the exports of silk in the three categories fell sharply, of which the export of silk fabrics fell by up to 44%. From January to February, the export of silk filament was 49 million US dollars, down 13.74%, accounting for 23.52%, with the amount of 1117.9 tons, down 1.22%, the unit price of 44.14 US dollars / kg, down 12.66%; the export of silk fabrics was 500 million US dollars, down 10.81%, accounting for 23.97%, with the export unit price of 5.2 US dollars/ meter, down 3.35%; the export of silk madeups was 110 million US dollars, down 1.51%, accounting for 52.50%.

2. Major export markets

The export of silk products to the European and American markets increased significantly, with a year-on-year increase of 44% to the European Union, and the market share of Europe and the United States increased by about 4 percentage points compared with the same period last year. Exports to Japan and India declined. The top five markets were: the European Union (up 44.03%, accounting for 29.24%), the United States (up 19.79%, accounting for 17.66%), Japan (down 5.16%, accounting for 6.81%), Pakistan (up 32.40%, accounting for 5.95%), India (down 6.82%, accounting for 5.44%).

2.1 Export situation of Silk filament

Exports of silk filament to the EU maintained a growth trend, accounting for 43% of its total exports, the decline in exports to India narrowed, and Pakistan rose to the fifth place in the export markets. The top five were: the European Union (up 39.05%, accounting for 42.80%), India (down 25.35%, accounting for 13.43%), Japan (up 15.60%, accounting for 11.58%), Vietnam (up 1938.27%, accounting for 9.42%), Pakistan (up 62.51%, accounting for 3.94%).

2.2 Export situation of silk fabrics

In addition to the growth rate of silk fabrics exports to the EU, the growth rate of exports to other major markets narrowed significantly from the previous month, and Afghanistan surpassed Vietnam in the fifth place in the export markets. The top five countries and regions were: the European Union (up 134.76%, accounting for 29.83%), Pakistan (up 27.28%, accounting for 15.97%), Sri Lanka (up 80.18%, accounting for 7.85%), India (up 33.74%, accounting for 7.55%), Afghanistan (up 289.38%, accounting for 5.49%).

 

2.3 Export situation of silk madeups

Exports of silk madeups to Hong Kong and Japan declined in January and February, while exports to other major markets increased by different margins. The top five countries and regions were: the United States (up 19.84%, accounting for 35.77%), the European Union (up 9.03%, accounting for 22.22%), Hong Kong (down 6.60%, accounting for 9.46%), Japan (down 23.64%, accounting for 6.87%), the United Kingdom (up 30.07%, accounting for 6.20%).

3. Export situation of provinces and municipalities

The export of silk products in the main provinces and municipalities generally increased, which were between 17% and 37%, and Shandong has surpassed Sichuan in the fifth place. The major provinces and cities are: Zhejiang (up 37.15%, accounting for 39.18%), Jiangsu (up 25.03%, accounting for 17.80%), Guangdong (up 31.24%, accounting for 8.87%), Shanghai (up 17.62%, accounting for 7.53%), Shandong (up 54.30%, accounting for 7.46%).
