Import situation

From January to December, the import value of silk products was 365 million dollars, going down 10.87% year-on-year, accounting for 1.6% of textiles and apparel. In the same period, the import value of textiles and apparel fell by 19.75%.

1. Import structure

In 2022, China's silk product imports failed to continue the upward trend of the previous year, which fell by 11% year-on-year. The three major categories of imports showed a downward trend, in which silk fabrics declined the most. The proportion of the three categories changed little from the previous year, and silk madeups remained at about 77%.

The import value of silk filament was 66.0859 million dollars, dropping 6.6%, accounting for 18.09%, the quantity of which amounted to 6800 tons, dropping 7.58%, and the unit price of which jumped by 1.15% to 9.71 dollars/kilo; the import of pure silk fabrics was 16.6787 million dollars, decreasing 26.18%, accounting for 4.57%, and the unit price of which jumped 8.42% to 14.29 dollars/meter; imports of silk madeups fell 10.73% to 282 million dollars, accounting for 77.34%.

2. Import situation of sources

In 2022, in addition to the significant growth of silk product imports from North Korea, China's imports from other major import sources decreased by different magnitudes year-on-year, while North Korea rose from eighth place last year to fifth with an increase of 244%, and the first to fourth places remained unchanged.

In addition, among the top ten import sources, the surge in imports from Myanmar was also worth paying attention to, with its import value reaching 5323% year-on-year, jumping from the twenties in 2021 to sixth place.

The top five import sources in order were the EU (down 10.79%, accounting for 71.57%), India (down 34.08%, accounting for 5.51%), China (down 27.32%, accounting for 4.78%), Uzbekistan (down 31.15%, accounting for 4.49%), North Korea (up 244.39%, accounting for 3.53%).

3. Import situation of provinces and municipalities

From January to December 2022, the top three ranks of the main import provinces and municipalities of silk products was still Shanghai, Zhejiang and Guangdong, and the other ranks changed greatly compared with last year.

Yunnan maintained its surge momentum since the second quarter, and its proportion continued to increase, ranking fourth from the 19th place last year. Beijing, another growing municipality in the top five, moved up one place from last year to fifth. Liaoning's imports increased by 149% year-on-year, rising from ninth last year to sixth.

Anhui Province and Jiangsu Province, which grew faster in imports in 2021 and ranked fourth and fifth, saw a large decline in imports this year, falling to seventh and ninth respectively.

The details were as follows: Shanghai (down 11.98%, accounting for 72.40%), Zhejiang (down 19.78%, accounting for 8.83%), Guangdong (down 39.13%, accounting for 3.17%), Yunnan (up 5504.56%, accounting for 2.84%), Beijing (up 9.83%, accounting for 2.18%). The five provinces and municipalities above accounted for 89.42% of the total.
