1. Silk product trade in DecemberAccording to statistics from the United States Department of Commerce, the trade value of silk products in December was 464 million US dollars, rising 4.73% from the previous month and 2.12% from the same period last year. Among them, the import value was 415 million US dollars, going up 7.9% month-on-month and 4.27% year-on-year; the export value was 49.383 million US dollars, dropping 16.01% on a monthly basis and 12.97% from the year earlier. The specific product composition was as follows:Import: The amount of silk filament was 1.2497 million US dollars, rising 69.39% month-on-month and 7.84% YOY, with its quantity jumping 35.87% from the previous month and dropping 12.93% from the year earlier to 28.99 tons; the amount of silk fabrics was 15.6941 million US dollars, falling 11.17% and 20.01% from the previous month and year respectively; silk madeups amounted to 398 million US dollars, growing 8.7% from the previous month and 5.52% YOY.Export: The amount of silk filament was 0.1384 million US dollars, falling 62.16% month-on-month and growing 78.87% YOY, with its quantity dropping 67.72% month-on-month and growing 59.57% YOY to 2.6 tons; the amount of silk fabrics was 14.5106 million US dollars, falling 18.06% and 8.46% from the previous month and year respectively; silk madeups amounted to 34.7339 million US dollars, falling 14.71% month-on-month and 14.9% YOY.
2. Silk product trade from January to December
From January to December, the US’ silk trade value totaled 6349 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 31.28%. Among them, the import value was 5582 million US dollars, up 32.53% YOY; the export value was 766 million US dollars, up 22.83% YOY(the same below). Details were as follows:Among the imported products, silk filament amounted to 14.9723 million US dollars, growing 30.39%, with its quantity jumping 5.52% to 356.94 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 242 million US dollars, with a rise of 5.08%; Silk madeups amounted to 5325 million US dollars, up 34.13% .The major sources of imports were China (1791 million US dollars, up 26.25%, accounting for 32.09%), Nicaragua (346 million US dollars, up 97.39%, accounting for 6.19%), India (332 million US dollars, up 31.78%, accounting for 5.95%), Italy (329 million US dollars, up 37.37%, accounting for 5.9%), Vietnam (329 million US dollars, up 42.66%, accounting for 5.89%). The total proportion of the 5 sources above was 56.02%.Among the export products, silk filament amounted to 1.667 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 96.13%, with the quantity falling 2.51% to 94.53 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 209 million US dollars, up 8.75% YOY; silk madeups amounted to 556 million US dollars, an increase of 28.97% YOY.The major export markets were Mexico (267 million US dollars, up 19.69%, accounting for 34.8%), Canada (133 million US dollars, up 24.53%, accounting for 17.37%), Honduras (58.7297 million US dollars, up 12.67%, accounting for 7.66%), Nicaragua (45.5624 million US dollars, up 153.87%, accounting for 5.94%), the UK (26.4716 million US dollars, up 29.94%, accounting for 3.45%). The five markets above accounted for 69.22% of the total.
