1. Silk products trade in January
According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, the trade value of silk products in January was 328 million US dollars, rising 3.85% from the previous month and 5.19% from the same period last year. Among them, the import value was 43.06 million US dollars, dropping 6.88% month-on-month and 6.94% year-on-year; the export value was 285 million US dollars, rising 5.69% on a monthly basis and 7.3% from the year earlier. Import: The amount of silk filament was 14.62 million US dollars, dropping 22.4% month-on-month and rising 8.94% YOY, with its quantity dropping 23.34% from the previous month and rising 10.53% from the year earlier to 274.73 tons; the amount of silk fabrics was 14.47 million US dollars, dropping 11.06% and 26.25% from the previous month and year respectively; silk madeups amounted to 13.97 million US dollars, rising 25.52% from the previous month and 5.59% YOY.
The major sources of imports were China (19.13 million US dollars, down 10.23%, accounting for 44.43%), Vietnam (10.66 million US dollars, up 18.97%, accounting for 24.76%), Bangladesh (4.28 million US dollars, up 160.98%, accounting for 9.94%), U.A.E (1.81 million US dollars, down 58.39%, accounting for 4.2%), Sri Lanka (1.7 million US dollars, down 32%, accounting for 3.95%). The total proportion of the 5 sources above was 87.28%.
Export: The amount of silk filament was 2.74 million US dollars, increasing 71.25% month-on-month and 194.62% YOY, with its quantity rising 49% month-on-month and 68.45% YOY to 227.63 tons; the amount of silk fabrics was 14.22 million US dollars, dropping 9.08% and 23.92% from the previous month and year respectively; silk madeups amounted to 268 million US dollars, rising 6.19% month-on-month and 8.96% YOY.
The major export markets were the US (115 million US dollars, up 2.51%, accounting for 40.34%), U.A.E (19.51 million US dollars, up 3.72%, accounting for 6.84%), the UK (17.75 million US dollars, up 31.77%, accounting for 6.22%), Canada (13.56 million US dollars, up 134.2%, accounting for 4.75%), Germany (11.59 million US dollars, down 11.46%, accounting for 4.06%).
