According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, the trade value of silk products in April was 282 million US dollars, falling 21.15% from the previous month and 11.16% from the same period last year. Among them, the import value was 35.99 million US dollars, going down 7.65% month-on-month and 26.98% year-on-year; the export value was 246 million US dollars, dropping 22.8% on a monthly basis and 8.24% from the year earlier. Import: The amount of silk filament was 12.83 million US dollars, falling 5.66% month-on-month and 40.85% YOY, with its quantity dropping 0.79% from the previous month and 36.25% from the year earlier to 232.49 tons; the amount of silk fabrics was 11.2 million US dollars, decreasing 3.11% and 25.58% from the previous month and year respectively; silk madeups amounted to 11.96 million US dollars, falling 13.4% from the previous month and 4.7% YOY.
Export: The amount of silk filament was 3.11 million US dollars, increasing 29.05% month-on-month and 8.36% YOY, with its quantity dropping 0.89% month-on-month and growing 1.31% YOY to 227.91 tons; the amount of silk fabrics was 16.02 million US dollars, falling 17.76% and 27.15% from the previous month and year respectively; silk madeups amounted to 227 million US dollars, decreasing 23.55% month-on-month and 6.73% YOY.
2. Silk products trade from January to April
From January to April, the India's silk trade value totaled 1285 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 0.87%. Among them, the import value was 160 million US dollars, down 8.63% YOY; the export value was 1125 million US dollars, up by 0.34% YOY(the same below). Details were as follows:
Among the imported products, silk filament amounted to 52.42 million US dollars, dropping 15.34%, with its quantity falling 8.61% to 975.45 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 47.42 million US dollars, with a drop of 24.85%; Silk madeups amounted to 60.38 million US dollars, up 19.94% .
The major sources of imports were China (64.33 million US dollars, down 16.19%, accounting for 40.15%), Vietnam (37.32 million US dollars, down 6.91%, accounting for 23.29%), Bangladesh (18.76 million US dollars, up 46.11%, accounting for 11.71%), U.A.E (8.62 million US dollars, up 30.41%, accounting for 5.38%), Sri Lanka (6.94 million US dollars, down 18.74%, accounting for 4.33%). The total proportion of the 5 sources above was 84.86%.
Among the export products, silk filament amounted to 10.04 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 43.84%, with the quantity jumping 14.58% to 831.3 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 63.94 million US dollars, down 24.26% YOY; silk madeups amounted to 1051 million US dollars, an increase of 2.07% YOY.
The major export markets were the US (479 million US dollars, up 1.4%, accounting for 42.62%), U.A.E (78.27 million US dollars, up 1.03%, accounting for 6.96%), the UK (72.65 million US dollars, up 18.19%, accounting for 6.46%), Germany (44.33 million US dollars, down 15.22%, accounting for 3.94%), Spain (40.86 million US dollars, up 6.96%, accounting for 3.63%).
