According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, the trade value of silk products in May was 267 million US dollars, falling 5.17% from the previous month and 10.32% from the same period last year. Among them, the import value was 40.13 million US dollars, jumping 11.5% month-on-month and falling 21.07% year-on-year; the export value was 227 million US dollars, dropping 7.61% on a monthly basis and 8.11% from the year earlier. Import: The amount of silk filament was 15.01 million US dollars, growing 16.99% month-on-month and dropping 28.86% YOY, with its quantity growing 24.58% from the previous month and dropping 26.57% from the year earlier to 289.64 tons; the amount of silk fabrics was 13.1 million US dollars, increasing 16.96% and decreasing 31.74% from the previous month and year respectively; silk madeups amounted to 12.02 million US dollars, growing 0.5% from the previous month and 13.93% YOY.
Export: The amount of silk filament was 2.6 million US dollars, decreasing 16.4% month-on-month and increasing 103.13% YOY, with its quantity growing 3.9% month-on-month and 15.54% YOY to 236.79 tons; the amount of silk fabrics was 15.48 million US dollars, falling 3.37% and 24.3% from the previous month and year respectively; silk madeups amounted to 209 million US dollars, decreasing 7.79% month-on-month and 7.27% YOY.
2. Silk products trade from January to May
From January to May, the India's silk trade value totaled 1552 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 2.64%. Among them, the import value was 200 million US dollars, down 11.43% YOY; the export value was 1352 million US dollars, down by 1.18% YOY(the same below). Details were as follows:
Among the imported products, silk filament amounted to 67.43 million US dollars, dropping 18.78%, with its quantity falling 13.46% to 1265.09 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 60.52 million US dollars, with a drop of 26.46%; Silk madeups amounted to 72.4 million US dollars, up 18.9% .
The major sources of imports were China (83.76 million US dollars, down 20.52%, accounting for 41.81%), Vietnam (47.41 million US dollars, down 3.78%, accounting for 23.66%), Bangladesh (21.93 million US dollars, up 46.01%, accounting for 10.95%), U.A.E (8.72 million US dollars, up 31.33%, accounting for 4.35%), Sri Lanka (8.13 million US dollars, down 30.81%, accounting for 4.06%). The total proportion of the 5 sources above was 84.83%.
Among the export products, silk filament amounted to 12.64 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 53.03%, with the quantity jumping 14.79% to 1068.09 tons; silk fabrics amounted to 79.42 million US dollars, down 24.27% YOY; silk madeups amounted to 1260 million US dollars, an increase of 0.39% YOY.
The major export markets were the US (582 million US dollars, up 0.72%, accounting for 43.06%), U.A.E (94.9 million US dollars, down 3.24%, accounting for 7.02%), the UK (83.19 million US dollars, up 10.51%, accounting for 6.15%), Germany (53.49 million US dollars, down 15.6%, accounting for 3.96%), Spain (49.6 million US dollars, up 2.06%, accounting for 3.67%).
